25.9.2025 ✨ New in Moder: Blocks/allotments

Modified on Thu, 25 Sep at 4:40 PM

The block (or allotments) feature has now been released in Moder. You can find the written instructions for blocks below, and you can watch a video demonstration here. Finnish instructions on blocks can be found here.

*Please note that at this time, the blocks feature is not supported together with the cross-selling feature. This means that if you block rooms, and the same items are available for cross-selling on another Moder platform, the blocking of the rooms will not be visible to your partner’s Moder or webshop. Availability also cannot be blocked from their calendar. *

*Please also note that currently, blocks are not supported on beta calendar.*

*Please be cautious if you add room categories to an allotment that are also linked to virtual packages. Virtual package availability works correctly in the webshop if the package checks availability from only one room category. However, if the virtual package checks availability from multiple categories, this is not yet supported with allotments. *

Creating blocks

1. If you are creating a block for example for a travel agency or a company, please first create a company profile for them under "Customers" ➝ "Company" section.

2. After this, go to the "Booking calendar" ➝ "Blocks" section. Click the "Create new" button in the upper right corner to create a new block.

3. Fill in the block details: name, short identifier, and estimated revenue. In the Company field, you can link the company profile you previously created if you wish.

In the Customer field, you can link a contact person’s profile if one has been created (private profiles cannot be created manually in Moder—Moder will automatically create a customer profile when a booking is created for the profile for the first time and if an email address is used in the booking).

In the Description field, you can optionally add internal information about the block. This information will not be visible to the end customer.

4. Next, fill in the dates for the block and define whether the block will actually reserve capacity or not. If you keep the "Block availability" option selected, the rooms added to the block will be blocked from being booked in the webshop.

Also, choose the release mechanism and release date for the block. The "All at once" mechanism will release all unbooked rooms in the block at once on the specified date. The "Every day" mechanism will release one day at a time, and the first day will be released on the date defined in the release date field.

As the last step, define from which room categories the rooms will be reserved and how many rooms will be included in the block.

Finally, click the "Create" button to create the block with the conditions you specified.

Editing block details and products

To edit the basic information of a block, click to open the block. Then click the "Edit block" button in the upper right corner.

If you want to add room categories to the block, click the "Add products" button.

If you want to edit the number of rooms for an already added category or adjust the room quantities per day, click the "Edit days" button.

Next, select the day or days you want to edit with your mouse (you can select multiple days at once by first choosing one date in the calendar, then selecting additional days while holding down the SHIFT key). Make the desired room quantity adjustments, click "Ok", and then "Save".

Creating bookings from a block

You can create bookings from a block in two ways: by going to the block’s "Bookings" tab or by creating a new group booking and linking the block to the group booking.

1. Creating a single booking or a booking cluster from a block

Go to the block’s "Bookings" tab and open the MultiBook tool from there.

After opening the MultiBook tool, the orange triangle will indicate which room categories have rooms reserved in the block. Add the rooms to the MultiBook cart as usual and proceed to checkout.

*Important note about creating bookings in a room category with rooms blocked*

In MultiBook, rooms blocked are displayed in the same way as generally reserved capacity. For example, if you have two rooms blocked, and all other rooms in the category except the blocked ones have already been booked, it will look in MultiBook as if there are no rooms left at all.

When you make a block booking, it may therefore appear as though you are overbooking the room, even though in reality MultiBook will take the room from the block you are booking from.

2. Creating a group booking from a block

Go to the Group bookings section and start creating a group booking as you normally would. On the group booking info page, you can link the booking to the desired block.

Then create the bookings as usual from the group booking’s "Bookings" page using MultiBook.

Blocks visibility in the booking calendar

In the booking calendar, you can see how many rooms from each category are reserved in blocks.

Please note that the booking calendar only shows blocks that are set to actually reserve capacity.
