18:00 Recap: most important things to check/do when setting up Moder

NEW! Front Desk user role has been published in May 2024.

With the Front Desk-user role (values.frontdesk), all critical operational functions remain possible, but access is restricted from the following sections or settings:

  • Pricing
  • Settings
  • Items and products (Accommodation-section)
  • Customers and scheduled messages

Key intakes from this video:

  • Company: the name, address, VAT ID etc. of your company is inserted here. You can add your VAT rates here, too. The company information and root user will be visible on your webshop. Note that if your business is using Finnish VAT rates (10%, 14% and 24%), you do not need to add any VAT rates here. Moder has a default setting for Finnish VAT rates.

  • Properties: here you can manage the webshops that have been built to your Moder, and add new webshops if needed.

  • Integrations: here you can add and connect your Stripe or Paytrail account with Moder. Note that if neither one is activated, your guests can only make booking requests from your webshop (since the system cannot handle payments until Stripe or Paytrail is activated).

  • Widgets: here you can get the embed code to be embedded to your website. This will then connect your website with Moder webshop so that the guests can be directed to your webshop to make a booking.

  • Localisation: here you can select the languages available on your Moder webshop, select the currency, and select what is the default language for booking confirmations.

  • Terms of booking: here you can add your terms of booking that will be then mandatory for the guest to accept when making a booking from your Moder webshop. The terms of booking should be added in PDF format, and they can be added in multiple languages.

  • Users: here you can add and delete users to your Moder. Note that Moder does not send a notification email to a new user. You can simply let them know they've been granted access to Moder.

Accommodation: editing room type information, adding rooms to a room type, and adding a new room type

0:30 How to edit room type information

14:00 How to add/delete rooms to an existing room type

Extra services

1:20 How to edit information on an existing extra service

5:55 How to add new extra services

Pricing: adding a base price to a room type

Key intakes from this video:

  • a room type must have a base price in order to be bookable form the webshop
  • the prices from Moder will flow through to external sales channels (Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia etc.) after integration is done
    • the only part of pricing that doesn't transfer to sales channels is the length of stay pricing
  • if you do not set up partial payments from base price, Moder will direct the guest to pay the full amount of the booking at the time of booking
    • note that you must have either Paytrail or Stripe activated (Settings --> Integrations) so that Moder can take payments. Otherwise, all bookings will come as booking requests.

Pricing: how to use price rules as a pricing tool

1:10 How to increase prices quickly with a price rule

2:56 How to lower the prices quickly with a price rule

3:53 How to increase the prices that are send to external sales channels

6:00 How to block sales using a price rule

Key intakes from this video:

  • with a price rule, you can increase or lower the prices quickly by percentage
  • price rule can be applied to all or multiple room categories at once, making it the fastest way to make changes to prices
  • you can set up price rules that apply only to external sales channels: this way you can increase the external sales channel prices using a price rule
  • you can block sales using a price rule. You can also block the sales only from external channels using a price rule.

Partial payments

Key intakes from this video:

  • use partial payments if you want to take only a deposit (e.g. 30%) of the full amount of the accommodation price at the time of booking, and charge the rest closer to check-in date or at the check-in/check-out
  • partial payments can be activated from the base price of the room type

Booking request feature

Key intakes from this video:

  • if you'd like to allow only booking requests for a certain room type, you can enable this by going to Accommodation ---> Edit desired room type ---> thick box "Allow only booking request" on first page ("Room type details")
  • booking requests must be manually accepted and the booking confirmation must be then manually sent to the guest directly from the booking

Coupons (discount codes)

Key intakes from this video:

  • you can create different kind of discount codes from Room prices --> Coupons section
  • guests can use the discount codes when booking accommodation or activites online

Scheduled messages

0:55 How to create an automated email

5:55 How to activate automated SMS sending

Key intakes from this video:

  • you can create different kind of scheduled emails that will be sent to the guest according to the trigger rule (can be before or after check-in, before or after check-out)
  • automated SMS is mostly used to send PIN codes on resorts where guests can do a self check-in
    • to include a PIN code on the SMS, you must have either a locking integration in place with Moder, or you can manage the door codes manually from Accommodation --> Rooms -section
    • you can add the SMS sender name from Settings --> Properties -section (if you don't add a specific name, Moder will use the first 11 letters of the property name as a sender)

Accommodation packages

0:30 How to add a virtual room aka. accommodation package "room type"

5:30 Adding extra services to the accommodation package

9:40 Creating a base price for accommodation package

12:30 How to create an accommodation package booking on back end

Key intakes from this video:

  • accommodation packages aka. virtual rooms are a combination of accommodation and extra services that are included in the room price
    • virtual rooms will not show up on the bookings calendar but the booking will come straight to the room type where the virtual room (accommodation package) takes its availability from

Activities (hourly based products)

0:00 Example: creating a rental bike to Moder

13:00 Example: creating a sauna to Moder

18:15 Example: creating a guided hiking tour (where availability depends on the guide's availability)

Key intakes from this video:

  • you can add different kind of hourly based products to Moder. These can be, for example, a rental bike, a guided tour, sauna or meeting room
  • when creating a product that has hourly availability (not overnight availability), select "activity" as a type of accommodation
  • from pricing section you can determine the booking slots and add price per each weekday
  • you can combine the virtual room (accommodation package feature) with activity: this way you can, for example, create a tour and add the guide as a resource for the tour. Then the availability of the tour depends on the guide's availability.

Attaching activities (hourly based products) to the same booking journey with accommodation

Key intakes from this video:

  • you can attach/link hourly based products with accommodation products so that the guest can start the booking journey by selecting the desired room category, and add hourly based products (such as sauna slot, activities) to the same booking
  • hourly based product must have availability slots and prices set up in order to be bookable
  • currently you can attach hourly based products to accommodation products, and hourly based products to other hourly based products, but you cannot attach accommodation to an hourly based product. This means that the guest cannot start the booking by selecting first the hourly based product and adding accommodation after that.
  • you can also attach hourly based products to accommodation products without publishing the hourly based product to the webshop. For example, you can create a complimentary sauna as hourly based product, give it 0 euro prices and attach it only to an accommodation package which includes sauna. This is demonstrated on the second example of the video.
